Governance Clerks

The Pope Francis Catholic Multi Academy Company (PFMAC) in the Archdiocese of Birmingham currently comprises eleven Catholic schools in Oxfordshire, two secondary and nine primary schools. The PFMAC has responsibility for the educational outcomes of over 3000 pupils and the management of Finance, HR and Operations for its schools.


Contract Type is casual

This is a zero hours contract

Salary NJC pay grade 7 (points 13-17), casual hourly rate: £11.73-£12.69 Depending on qualifications and experience.

We are creating our own team of governance clerks to support Local Governing Bodies (LGBs) across the school in The Pope Francis Catholic Multi Academy Company. These are new positions identified due to the needs of the business and a growing Multi-Academy Company.

The Governance Handbook states:

‘High quality professional clerking is crucial to the effective functioning of the board. Their role is not only about good and effective organisation and administration, but also, and more importantly, about helping the board understand its role, functions and legal duties and supporting the chair to enable and facilitate strategic debate and decision making. This is crucial in helping the board exercise its functions expediently and confidently, so that it can stay focused on its core functions.’

Working with your agreed school(s) you will provide clerking and professional governance advise, working effectively with the Chair, Headteacher and LGB members to ensure that the LGB fulfils its roles and responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be well organised and have excellent administrative and communication skills. Experience in preparing agendas, minutes, and papers is essential and knowledge of the role of governance clerk is highly desirable. Successfully candidates will work with tact, sensitivity and be confidentially.

The successful candidates will have excellent inter-personal skills, be competent at using Microsoft Office suite of applications and be able to work under pressure whilst maintaining a calm and professional manner at all times. Candidates must be willing to support meetings remotely and in person and be able to willing to travel to schools (travel expenses to be reimbursed).
