Meet the Governors
Fr Paul Whieldon - Co-Chair of Governors, Parish Priest
Fr Paul is a native of North Staffordshire and has been here in West Oxfordshire since the summer of 2022. He was ordained Deacon in 2001 and Priest in 2002. Having served Curacies in Small Heath and Sutton Coldfield, he was Parish Priest of West Worcester for 10 years before moving to look after the parishes of St Christopher’s Codsall and St Thomas of Canterbury Tettenhall. From there he moved to be Spiritual Director of the Kenelm Youth Trust and Parish Priest of Alton. A keen musician and enjoying gardening, he also spends his free time looking after his canine companions.
Pauline McCormack-White - Chair of Governors
I have recently taken on the role of Chair at St Joseph’s School where I am also the SEND link governor.
Having served in the Royal Air Force for 34 years, I had a number of posts in specialist Training and Development, concluding my career as head of specialist training. I have lived in Carterton for 28 years, and where I have been an active member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church. Since retiring I have volunteered in St Joseph’s School supporting children to progress through Key Stage 2 using the Project X Reading Scheme. I currently listen to the children in Early Years read, where I enjoy seeing them progress.
I am dedicated to ensuring that all children at St Joseph’s receive the best faith-filled
education possible and I feel privileged and honoured to be a member of the local governing body at St Joseph’s School and look forward to working closely with staff, parent and governors.
Governors:
School governors work with the Headteacher to make sure the school provides a high-quality education and runs effectively.
They focus on strategic leadership rather than day-to-day management. Their key responsibilities include:

Setting the school’s vision, aims and policies

Holding school leaders to account for pupils’ progress and staff performance

Deciding how the school’s budget is spent and ensuring money is used wisely

Appointing and dismissing staff, and hearing appeals or grievances

Forming policies on the curriculum and collective worship

Setting standards for behaviour and discipline

Ensuring buildings and resources are safe, welcoming and fit for purpose

The governing board meets 5 times per year.
